
Mission Statement
The Bluffton High School Concert Choir is a choir open to any student who
shows the desire and discipline to achieve musical skills. The goal of High
School Concert choir is to build musical skills through understanding the vocal
mechanisms, using correct singing habits, performing a variety of literature,
singing with expression, performing with instruments or alone, developing sight
singing abilities, developing skills to identify, define and record musical
notation, and developing skills in evaluating music and performances.

Robes
Choir members are issued a choir robes, which they will wear for all
concerts.
Ladies should wear either black dress pants, black socks and black dress shoes
or a skirt and
nice black dress shoes.
Men should wear black dress pants, black socks and black dress shoes.
Attendance
Being a member of the Bluffton High School Concert Choir places an
obligation upon you to the entire organization. Attendance to all rehearsals
and performances is required. For unavoidable conflicts, the director may
give excused absences. To be granted an excused absence, a written
notice from parents with a brief explanation of conflict must be give to the
director two weeks prior to rehearsal or performance. In the case of
sudden illness, please call and leave a message in the band room office
(358-7017).
Absences that have not been cleared with the director in advance are
considered unexcused and will result in a substantial grade reduction or removal
from choir.
Unexcused Absences
The following are examples of unexcused absences:
1. Homework
2. Transportation problems
3. Baby-sitting
4. Commitments made after a rehearsal or concert has been scheduled
5. Failure to request time off from a job
On a daily basis, students are expected to be in the rehearsal room sitting in assigned seat with music in hand before the bell rings. Student arriving after this time are considered tardy. After 3 tardies, a detention will be assigned for each additional tardy. Students should not plan to use the choir period to make up tests, sell fund-raisers or do other school activities unless the director grants special permission.
Hall Passes
Not student is allowed to leave the classroom without a hall pass from
Mrs. Smith. Failure to follow correct procedure will be assigned detentions and
referred to the High School Principal.
Grading Policy
Grades and academic credit will be based upon attendance, participation,
quality of performances, knowledge or music, conduct, attitude, written exams
and vocal exams. Credit will be give to students who complete the required
activities successfully.
Grades will be computed as follows:
