The Scarlet Letter

A Website for Students

Welcome!

This website is set up to help you understand the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.  It is not intended to replace the reading of the novel.  There are no chapter summaries on this site.  Instead you will find definitions of vocabulary that may be unfamiliar to you as well as a glossary listing terms, people, and places that are alluded to in the text.  Most of these allusions provide links to pages outside this site that explain the term in more detail.  Finally, you will find a list of chapter questions to help you to expand your understanding of the novel.

To navigate this site, click on one of the links below to go to the chapter, vocabulary, allusions, or questions pages.  Once there you can navigate the page using the links provided at the top of the page. I suggest that you start with the Chapters Page and use that as the gateway to the rest of the site.
