Narrated Solution
In order to find the total distance of all sides the law of sine must be used
Sin25/19 = BJ/40
This equals 0.8897226563
The Sine inverse of this number must be found in order to determine the measure of angle BJ
Sine inverse of 0.889726563 = 62.83841667
By adding the measures of angels X and BJ together and subtracting the total from 180 we find the measure of angle Y to be 92.16158333
Use the law of sine again only this time to determine the length of side y
Sin25/19 = sin92.16158333/y
y is determined to equal 44.92583947 miles
We know that the USS Bluffton landed 30 miles from the coast leaving approximately 14.93 miles of rough coast for the SEALs to cover. Being that the water craft moves at maximum of 20 miles an hour it will at best take the SEALs 1.5 hours to reach the coast. From the coast we can now determine that it is approximately 22.93 miles to Landing Zone Bravo (14.93+8) at three miles an hour it will take the seals approximately 7.64 hours to cover this amount of ground. Knowing this we figure that it will take a total of 9.15 hours to retrieve operative BJ. This does not fit within the allotted time schedule making rescue by the proposed means impossible.
